Election of Town Mayor

                                  CARTERTON TOWN COUNCIL – 21/05/25

Carterton Town Council Appoints Mayor and Deputy Mayor for 2025-26

Carterton Town Council is pleased to announce the appointment of Cllr Michele Mead as the Mayor of Carterton for the Council Year, 2025-26. Cllr Mead was formally elected at the Annual Town Council Meeting held on 20th May 2025, and will serve as the Chair of the Council and Mayor of the town for the coming year.

Also appointed at the meeting was Cllr Simon Watson, who will serve as Deputy Mayor and Vice-Chair of the Council for 2025-26, supporting the Mayor in her duties and deputising as needed.

As well as being Chair of the Council and presiding over meetings, the Mayor’s role is to act as an ambassador for the town, attending civic events, and representing Carterton at functions both within the town and further afield.

In addition to their ceremonial responsibilities, the Mayor also plays an important part in promoting the town and many local initiatives, including supporting community organisations and raising funds for charity.

This year’s Mayor brings a wealth of experience in public service, having also served as Mayor in 2024-25 and previously in 2019-20, when she helped navigate the council and the town through the early months of the Covid Pandemic.

Cllr Mead represents the Milestone Ward and was first elected as a Town Councillor in May 2014. She also serves on West Oxfordshire District Council, where, as a member for Carterton South, she is also Leader of the Conservative Group and Leader of the Opposition.

In her opening remarks, the Mayor expressed her gratitude to fellow councillors for their support and outlined her hopes for the year ahead, saying “It is a real honour to be elected again as Mayor of Carterton. I’m incredibly proud of our town and look forward to working with all councillors and for all of our residents in representing our town over the coming year.”

The Deputy Mayor will assist the Mayor throughout the year and ensure continuity of leadership where required. Together, they will attend a variety of engagements across Carterton and represent the Council at official events.

The Council would like to thank the outgoing Deputy Mayor, Cllr Natalie King, for her service and dedication over the past year, during which she represented Carterton with enthusiasm and commitment.
