THEFT FROM MOTOR VEHICLES AROUND OXFORDSHIRE

Following a spate of theft from vehicles, specifically tools from work vans, Thames Valley Police have provided the following advice:

In the last few days there has been an extremely concerning increase in theft from motor vehicles overnight, specifically tools from work vans, around Oxfordshire. Reports thus far number 22 in the last 48 hours.

Please consider removing your tools and other valuables from your vans overnight – the offenders appear well practised and vehicle alarms are not being triggered. The offenders are also concealing their identity. If you cannot empty your vans, please consider parking defensively, eg up against a wall, garage, or other vehicles to prevent access to your van.

Now would be a good time to make sure any CCTV or video doorbells are charged and operating, but we would rather prevent the offences than be watching the footage of it with you. We know only too well, the impact that this is having on local residents.

Please be vigilant and report any suspicious vehicles on 101. Any offences in progress or having just occurred should be reported on 999.

Roadworks in Lechlade 1. Halfpenny Bridge and 2. A361 Burford Road

Lechlade Town Council have, today, notified us of road works around Lechlade. Please see below for full details:

Subject: Roadworks in Lechlade 1. Halfpenny Bridge and 2. A361 Burford Road

Apologies for the short notice but we were only informed last week of two sections of roadworks in Lechlade which started yesterday and will be present over the next 4-8 weeks. I thought it would be useful to share in case any issues are raised with you.

  1. The repairs to Halfpenny Bridge are expected to be completed over the next 2 months. The bridge is open, and traffic is being managed by temporary traffic lights which are being manually operated between 7am-7pm, 7 days a week. Details can be found at: https://www.gloucestershire.gov.uk/halfpenny-bridge/work-updates . This page will be updated periodically. It is important to be aware that the public footpath (Thames National Trail) will remain closed whilst the works are undertaken, and a diversion is in place. The alternative route is signed on site.
  2. A361 Burford Road – Wales & West Utilities are doing a mains replacement scheme starting under multiway lights between 29th July and 30th August.  They will then move down into Oak Street ending around 6th September 2024. Updates here https://www.gloucestershire.gov.uk/roads/roadworks/ and can be viewed on the One-Network interactive map.
