Carterton Town Council is seeking a dynamic and experienced individual to join our team in the role of Deputy Town Clerk / Responsible Finance Officer (RFO). This is a key position within the council, offering an exciting opportunity to contribute to the effective management of our finances and office resources.

Position: Deputy Town Clerk / Responsible Finance Officer (RFO)
Pay Grade: SCP 24-32 (£33,024 – £40,221)
Hours: 37 hours per week, including evening meetings and occasional weekend work
Location: Carterton Town Hall, Alvescot Rd, Carterton

Closing Date:  12th February 2024

Job Purpose: As Deputy Town Clerk / RFO, you will be responsible for managing the council’s finances, overseeing office resources and staff, and deputising for the Town Clerk. You will play a crucial role in ensuring the smooth running of the council’s financial processes, attending meetings, and leading on specific projects.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Effective management of the office and staff.
  • Managing council finances, including budget preparation, monitoring, and year-end accounts.
  • Recording minutes and actions for full town council meetings.
  • Leading specific projects.
  • Deputising for the Town Clerk.

 

Person Specification: We are looking for candidates with practical experience in financial management, staff management, and administrative duties. Essential qualifications include Maths GCSE (grade A-C) and A Levels in English, or five years of report writing. High-level skills in MS Office suite are required.

The successful candidate will demonstrate excellent communication skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work collaboratively in a team. Experience in public sector financial accounting, CiLCA or equivalent council qualification, and computer-based payroll would be desirable.
